Dear fellow Gryphs,
Thank you to everyone who were there at yesterday's opening match, and congratulations are in order to the first team who not only won the game, but also created history in doing so!
This is the first time in 11 years that any Monash Gryphons team has won the opening league match! You should all be very proud of your efforts, and I am positive that this is only the beginning! Yesterday's win was a sign of things to come! It showed our "never say never" attitude as we did not let a 1st minute goal deter us. Instead we fought back and smashed 4 past Thornbury
The seconds fought bravely and went down to an unlucky and controversial goal as three Thornbury players ran Alfred over and one high foot tapped the ball over the line. On top of this, Eric was denied a goal with his fantastic strike which was disallowed after the referee called an infringement. Nevertheless, seconds have all reason to be proud as well. Last year, seconds went down 0-3 at home and lost 1-3 away. At the start of this year, we suffered a 1-4 thumping away to Thornbury. Hence, yesterday's narrow 0-1 defeat is a massive improvement and we will take the positives from the match and build on them at training this week.
Finally, a special thanks goes out to Allan for his dedication and team support! Allan was in bed all Saturday with the flu, and was in no shape to play Sunday's match. Nevertheless, his dedication to the club outweighed his concern for his own health as he came to offer lifts, stayed to watch the reserves game, and also went to get water bottles to ensure we all got enough fluids in the heat! Thanks Allan
See you all at training this week - Tuesday & Thursday. Remember that Gryphball has started again and will be played every Thursday. This is a cherished trophy and requires consistent performances to win. Next Sunday we face our arch rivals, Swinburne University, so we need to be on top of our game both at training and on Sunday.
Gryph out, Amar
